Sophia Goehner — Founder, Virtual Design Spaces

Sophia Goehner is an architect and researcher whose work investigates how generative AI reshapes the discipline of architecture — from the production of images to the construction of space.

She founded Virtual Design Spaces to build an archive of tomorrow’s built environment — a body of work that treats generative imagery not as decoration but as raw architectural matter, to be selected, translated, and resolved into buildings.

Her practice spans Ithaca, New York, Berlin, and Vienna, and moves between writing, design research, and built work. Sophia teaches and lectures on the role of artificial intelligence in design pedagogy, and collaborates with studios on projects where image, structure, and program are negotiated together.

In her words

“What is generated is not yet architecture. It becomes architecture through discipline.”
